Adelaide 36er’s excitement machine, Jerome Randle is back in town and keen to kick off pre-season preparation for a big season ahead.
Randle sat out the recent NBA Summer League after a successful European season with Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania where his side won the Championship and he was awarded the finals series MVP.
Arriving in Adelaide a little earlier than expected for a team import position, he said he and wife Zhordan were happy to be back.
“We came back a little early as we love it here in Adelaide. We left half our stuff here when we left last season that’s how much we loved it here.”
Randle’s first season in the NBL was a huge success averaging 23 points a game and 5.17 assists a game, he led his side both on and off the court with his basketball knowledge and leadership.
“Last year I thought it was really competitive. I was happy to have such a great coach as Joey Wright who allowed me to showcase my game and I had a good group of guys around me.”
“I think the new players are going to bring a lot of excitement. Now they’ve added another import I’m sure a lot of NBA and ex-NBA players are drawn to this league even more. The fans support in the NBL is great and the league is doing a great job so I think this year will be really competitive and exciting and I can’t wait.”
“Teams can’t just focus on me and I’m here early this time to help my team be able to handle the pressure on them to also free me up a little. It doesn’t matter if there is pressure on me or not, I’m really confident in my ability and I feel like I can go out there and do what I need to do to help my team win.”
Randle said his ultimate goal was obvious. “Win the championship,” he said.
“To feel that excitement again. Winning the championship in Europe was definitely a great experience for me in front of 20,000 fans. I want to bring that type of excitement to Adelaide.”
